Distance Education – Chapter One : My educational backgound.

Distance Education - Chapter 1- by Aidan

So, for the very first real article of this blog, I wanted to talk to you guys about my very own journey with Distance Education. I’d like to clear things up before starting. Before following corresponding courses, I have always been to face-to-face/campus based schools – or if you prefer “normal schools” -, like (almost) everybody. This story is personal so it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen to you! I just wanted to share with you my experience – which had been both good and bad with taking corresponding courses. I know a lot of people don’t like this way of learning because it’s against their opinion or simply because they don’t understand why people do that and it’s ok, I get that. I just don’t want you to get any bad preconceived ideas about it. I thought I might change the way you see distance education, make you understand what it really is.

In my year 8/ 7th grade (that’s when the story begins), my parents wanted to leave France for an indefinite period, so they decided that the best for me was to go with them and take corresponding courses. We travelled from France to The US, from the US to France (we couldn’t stay there a lot because we didn’t have the green card). It was my first time then, and I must admit this whole new teaching method was a bit confusing. But anyway, it didn’t take very long for me to “go with the flow”, as I was (and I am still) a solitary-girl, used to work alone- and enjoying it! (y)  It went on until year 9/8th grade and everything went better as I expected : I had good grades, and had fun too because hell yes, I was in ‘merica !

Er…let’s not get lost.

So, I did my two years of travelling around, and then, we got back to France and I went to my old school again, did another year there (year10/9th grade), got my Diplôme National du Brevet (the french GCSE), and  then I got into secondary school/high school and got accepted into a Spanish International Section (year 11/ 10th grade).

My parents decided to travel again , but this time to Spain. So, I went back to distance education to take the French equivalent of the A-levels examinations. I did my year 12 / 11th grade there but it went wrong. I failed my exams so I decided to do it again and – here I am!  Blogging and just waiting untill next year to see if I’ll go back to my hometown school or just continue like this until the final exams. (Just give me some time to write about that 😉 )

Here we go, this was a very boring article, I know, but let me reassure you, it was just a short introduction for the many (at least, I hope) next articles I will write on Distance Education.
